I read in a novel (I know) that some US marines in the Pacific theater during WW2 would reject the new M1 Garand rifle in favor of the older and apparently more reliable Springfield. Are there any truth behind this or is it a figment of the authors imagination?

Hi r/AskHistorians. I have been thinking about the Sea Peoples of ancient Egypt and I've gotta ask: Are we sure "Sea People" wasn't just a term for "sailor"? Mediterranean sailors would surely have made up their own culture back then like they have until modern times, wouldn't they?

The Roman empire famously deployed legions from one end of the empire to keep the peace in another, sometimes for centuries. Do we know if there was a constant influx of fresh recruits sent across the empire for these legions or if they relied on locals to bolster their ranks on arrival?
