How “sharp” is a black hole’s event horizon? If I flew past a black hole at a relativistic speed, and accidentally “clipped” the event horizon with a single molecule of my ship, would that molecule of spaceship break off and be sucked into the singularity?

What do scientists think about the depictions of black holes in popular science? I've made a short list of black hole tropes that I'm unsatisfied with. Is there any better way to explain the arcane math of these phenomena to the dummies of the world like me?

MythBusters and the SciShow both say that the use of liquor to help people stuck in the cold is a myth and actually counterproductive. But it just seems so clear that if you must build a fire but your fingers are numb, a vasodilator is EXACTLY what you’ll need to survive. Why is this ignored? Or

Why do balloons float and rise upwards? Let's say a person lays a thin balloon for balloon animals down on the ground, is the air pressure REALLY that much lower merely centimeters above the ground at the top of the balloon than the sides of the balloon to cause the rubber to rise?
