Did medieval siege engineers transport their siege towers/ladders/trebuchets from battle to battle, or did they just bring their tools and build them as needed? And how did they decide which machines would be effective against their target?

Ancient monarchs often claimed to be deities (eg. Cleopatra styled herself as the Egyptian God Isis). How much did this actually advance them politically? Even if the peasants would believe these claims, would other nobles they knew personally be swayed to their cause by claims of divinity?
