[WP] An alien intelligence decides that humanity can no longer be trusted with sharp objects. In a flash, everything on earth that is sharp or pointy disappears. The aliens disappear as well, leaving us to rebuild our now pointless and decidedly non-edgy civilization.

[WP] Instead of a group of humans, it was a group of Neanderthals that crossed the ice bridge to the Americas. When European explorers arrive, instead of a new culture, we get a new species. As it turns out, they aren't susceptible to each other's diseases.

[WP] Time travel into the past becomes possible, cheap, and widespread, but it takes 100 days to travel 1 day back. A few desperate people begin to contract to change the past in exchange for money, spending years in a tiny box just to carry a message to a few weeks ago.
