How do you draw the fingers on a rhinoceros when making something like an anthropomorphic rhino?

I would really like to redraw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well as other mutants from the series such as Bebop and Rocksteady, but I want to make them look like proper mutants while also avoiding making them just look like anthro fursonas. How do I do that and not make them look ugly?
