A recent article quoted a historian as saying that the year 536 was "the worst year to be alive." How could one objectively measure such a thing? Can a legitimate argument be made that a different year was worse?

Lake Ontario features a dense urban area in Canada, but not in the US; the other Great Lakes feature a host of US major cities/urbanized areas, but no Canadian ones. Is there a reason for this?

The region I live in has been conquered by the Roman Empire. How do they try to integrate us into the larger machine? What would my social status have to be for me to notice? Would it make a difference if we were resource rich/poor?
