In production of glass, sodium carbonate is added to silica to reduce silica's transition temperature to more manageable level. How does it work, if both substances are just mixed powders - small, but still completely separate solids?

If physical dependence in opioid-addicted people makes withdrawal syndrome so uncomfortable and difficult to handle, why aren't we just putting heroin addicts into coma for 2-3 weeks (like we do with patients with serious injury) until most of the symptoms are gone, and continue with psychotherapy?

I am a smoker. Let's say I chain smoke. My cigarettes contain up to 400 mg of nicotine per pack of 20. Nicotine is also an insecticide. Do I unknowingly dish out instant revenge on mosquitoes, flies, and other microscopic critters that snack on my blood?
