When I walk into a room and forget why I'm there, but I know I'm there for a reason, does that mean my brain has a backup set of memories? (Sort of like writing a note, and then writing a smaller note reminding yourself that you had written a note)

Does a black hole take time to "eat through" matter (ie. if a black hole suddenly appeared within a planet, and you were floating somewhere near by, would you have time to travel to a safe distance)?
