I've read that the effectiveness of strategic bombing in WW2 was grossly overestimated. If so, how did this effect later air power strategy/policy? Was building all those B-52s/carpet bombing Vietnam/etc partly the result of a misunderstanding/propaganda from the Air Force industrial complex?
