Why do we sometimes sneeze when we see bright light (ie The sun outside) after our eyes being adjusted to relatively dim light (ie Indoor lights)?

Why can I see some stars easier when they're slightly in my peripheral vision? Looking directly at them makes them appear dimmer, and I have to concentrate harder to see them.
