What was the reaction of World War II/Korea veterans to the typical war movie of the 50s/60s? Were they frustrated at the lack of realism? How did they feel about the fact that the films were sometimes intended to convey a patriotic or ideological message, rather than an accurate depiction of war?

In spectroscopy, how do we differentiate the redshift of an astronomical object from its actual spectra? In other words, how do we know the redshift we're seeing is an actual redshift, instead of just a weird spectra?
