Were there any socio-economic policy used by the Soviets that did not fully go with true communism ? I want to understand if communism as a form of government is really that bad, or was it the Soviets that failed to implement communism in a true way.

How did Christianity get transported to Russia ? Russian empire is generally considered a remote conservative society. How did they know about and come to embrace a religion of Europe ? And how did it get distorted into orthodox when most of Europe was Catholic/Protestant ?

Are there any sources or pieces of evidence to claim that Stalin and other USSR leaders as well as Mao and other Chinese leaders were corrupted ? How much of personal property did most of them own ? Did any of them amass huge wealth during their reign ?
