Is there a scientific reason we don't conduct surveys with many more people than we need responses from and then randomly draw a sample within each strata required to make it representational for the larger population?

If inflammation is the human body's response to trauma, why is the first remedy for so many ailments to ice it and or take NSAIDs to reduce inflammation? Why isn't letting the inflammation do it's thing the best option?

It seems like all animals evacuate their excrement toward the ground. The disease factors make it seem obvious how humans and other land animals would evolve this way. Why does it seem universal among aquatic creatures too, where the direction doesn't help (at least as much)?
