The majority of papers/essays that I have written for school were required to be typed in 12pt Times New Roman font. Why was this specific size and font set as an academic standard?

If Christopher Columbus’s goal was to sail around the world to India. Was he unaware of any the lands in South East Asia (such as the Philippines, Indonesia, or Malaysia) or was he just not interest in trading with these places?

In current American society, being an outspoken supporter of the Nazis/Hitler can make you loose your job, friends, and publicly shamed (in many cases, at least). Before WW2, were there any similar kind of groups idolizing a hated figure/idea that would result in social repercussions?
