I've just learned that drinking of hot water and avoiding consuming anything cold is a fairly recent phenomenon in Chinese culture, has very little to do with actual, historical teaching of TCM, and started with public health ordinances of the Shanghai concessions. How much of this is true?

Since brain takes quite a bit of energy to run, does doing mental work like learning or maths help with losing weight as well? Or does brain always expend the same amount of energy regardless of the perceived difficulty of work?
