Let's take a screw and bolt situation. When you apply a rotation to the bolt, it transforms it into a linear motion. But how can we explain that if you apply a linear force to the bolt it does not convert it into a rotation motion ?

It seems like on an economic point of view, we need population to grow but on an ecological point of view it seems unsustainable. What are the projection on population growth ? Can our current economic system adapt to a stable/decreasing population ?
