If our system was a binary star system would life had still developed on our planet or possibly on another planet or would it be a dead system?

I recently had an eye test and told that even though i wore a patch and glasses for a while my left eye will never improve even if my right eye is perfect, if i lost vision in my left eye would it improve like a blind persons hearing improves to compenaate or would it stay the same?
