If CRISPR is a catalogue of DNA segments from the bacteriophages prokaryotes have encountered and defended against, shouldn't a prokaryotic genome be bloated with the bits of viral DNA that it has acquired over billions of years or are viral DNA fragments lost over time if they aren't used often?
