Most major cities in the US are built right on rivers flowing through downtown. Why is Atlanta so far from the Chattahoochee?

Ancient Egyption: Presumably only the best stonecarvers could work on the high profile monuments, but were there any carvers with "bad handwriting"? or places where someone messed up and had throw out a whole block?
