There’s two gothic churches near where I live (in Staffordshire), one was built in 1758 & other 1870. I always thought they looked really similar & I use to get their names confused. is there any way to tell which belongs to which period from looking at their architecture (see details for images)?

Someone once told me that the church supported the Norman invasion or Ireland because they had less power there. Is that true? if "yes" how, how can the church have less than total power over followers lives when they have total discretionary power to excommunicate people?

You know post-apocalyptic sci-fi where future humans have reverted to a less technologically advanced state. Has there ever been a real instance of a civilisation having the technical know how to do something then later totally loosing (not just losing the means) it? if "yes" how did it happen?
