This morning my roommate noticed that if he added soap to boiling water, the water ceased to make almost any noise, even at a rolling boil. There weren't enough suds to mask the sound, just enough to coat the edges of the pan. Why is this?

Every once in a while, my cigarette gets stuck to my lip as I pull it away from my mouth, almost always enough to rip a little piece of skin off. What is physically happening between these surfaces to cause this adhesion?
