I've heard grapes have more "coding genes" than humans. Do the human coding-genes form some kind of sub-set or overlap of the grape, or are the coding regions of the DNA/(genome?) completely different?

Why is peer review such a big part of scientific rigor these days? Isn't repeatability and reproducibility a more 'pure scientific method' to determine the merits of an investigation's subjective outcomes?
