How do large, triple parachutes like those used on Apollo capsules seem to automatically maintain separation from each other at a rather steep angle?

Would a dark-colored field of solar panels create an updraft like a dark-colored expanse of asphalt does? Or do the solar panels, by their nature, absorb the energy that would otherwise get converted to heat?
