Isn't saying "Democracy (a form of governance) is about how we 'choose' leaders" the same as saying "player selection, is a style of football"? And how would that be logical, to be describing the style of a game that hasn't started yet?

Assuming it were possible to prove beyond question that we do not in fact have democracies (let’s assume for a moment that we've cross that point), would they that reject the idea now, still reject it, and what would inform the aversion to it still? Or would that settle it?
