If the sun was blocked out by say a force-field for about 30 years or so and suddenly the force-field was removed, how long would it take Earth to get back to some semblance of normality, aka a place where flora and fauna can thrive again?

What would happen to Earth's atmosphere if we were pulled away from the Sun but fell in orbit around another star of equal heat/light etc? Since the atmosphere has already frozen, would it thaw and drift into space, or would it repair itself?
