Ok, I'm sure this has been asked before but my searches have yielded nothing. in WWII, why did the Japanese align with the Nazis (and vice-versa) if the Nazis felt they were the master race and the Japanese were inferior?

At the end of the film Dangerous Liasons, Glen Close's character is, in effect, booed by an angry audience when she enters the theater. But they don't boo, they do something else peculiar, like cluck their tongues or something. Can anyone shed light on this practice?
