In staring out a window covered in moisture. At any moment, with the flick of my eyes, I can focus on the outside world or shift to the moisture on the window. What's happening in my eyes when I do this?

A book I read recently (although perhaps outdated now) says there is evidence to show that the earth we’re living in now is merely a short warm up period in the middle of two greater ice ages. Is there any evidence to support this?
