There is a thread on the front page about terrible physical sensations that are painless. What makes these sensations (ie: nails on a chalkboard) so terrible for some people?

We know that diet sodas and artificial sweeteners cause insulin spikes due to the body perceiving the sweetness as sugar. Is there a correlation between how sweet something tastes that causes this, or is it the artificial sweeteners themselves?
