How many Europeans were aware of Leif Erikson’s expedition to North America by the time Christopher Columbus made his voyage? Did they think it was a myth, or were they just out of the loop of Scandinavian affairs?

How often are historical documents written by someone who doesn't have a firm grasp of their own language? Is it ever difficult to translate something when the writer constantly makes mistakes?

There have been several cases of a country selling large amounts of land to another country. What typically happens to the people living in that territory? Are they asked to relocate, or is their citizenship "transferred" to the new country?
