In elementary school, we were taught that the continental army defeated the British by adopting the tactics of the native Americans. While the redcoats marched in formation and fired from the line, the Americans would hide behind trees and stone walls. How accurate is this?

Is anyone familiar with the historian Susan Wise Bauer? Her books about ancient medieval times seem right up my alley. They are published by W.W. Norton which seems like a good sign. But her biography has some things that give me pause. Though perhaps that is simply my own prejudice.
