Where do locust swarms come from, and why do they only seem to be rampant in parts of Africa, and not in other places in the world like North America?

Why does shearing a sheep not hurt the sheep, but shearing a chicken, duck, or goose, or plucking the chicken's/duck's/goose's feathers, hurt the chicken/duck/goose? Is there any possible way to shear or pluck the feathers of a chicken/duck/goose without hurting the chicken/duck/goose?

Why is it that when a person is obese, their chest, shoulders, arms, waist, thighs, and legs are all super big, but their head, hands/fingers, and feet/toes remain the same size as a normal person's?
