Why did Henry VIII have so many children die?

In the tale of Sinbad, on his fifth voyage it is mentioned that the Old Man of the Sea rides Sinbad with his legs around Sinbad's neck. Burton says that is inspired by the same African custom of riding slaves like that but i cannot find a source to support this
