The Germanic and Celtic languages have both an extremely old word for apes and monkeys (apa). Did we have apes in classic europe and is it that the few apes (imported by the Greeks or Romans or Phoenicians) impressed the northern barbarians to remember them for millenia? Where's that word from?

In the recent film "Trumbo" a guy from the MPA for the Preservation of American Ideals (Elias Kazanjoglous?) is threatened with a baseball bat by Frank King (the director of a B-Movie studio), whom he tried to intimidate to fire the blacklisted scriptwright Dalton Trumbo. Did that really happen?
