How likely is it that I would have gotten away with a murder in Victorian-era England? If there were no witnesses and forensic science didn't exist, how could it be proved I did it?

The French soldier and performer "Tarrare" was reliably said to have had such a voracious appetite that he ate live cats and dogs, rotten meat found in the street and even a corpse. Is there a modern-day medical explanation for this behavior?
