I just burned my fingertip on a hot plate. How did we evolve a sense of dangerously high temperatures, when we were the species that invented fire? Natural fires don’t seem frequent enough to exert evolutionary pressure. I presume our ancestors didn’t hang out around lava. Is it just generic pain?
