In Gene Luen Yang's graphic novel "Boxers" (set in the Boxer Rebellion), a character makes some pretty outlandish claims about Westerners, saying that they grind up people's eyeballs for medicine and drink goblets of menstrual blood. Were there people in China who actually believed things like this?
