When I'm in a very dark room and close my eyes, i see shapes moving across my fov when i focus on the inside of my eyelids, am i actually seeing something physical or is it my mind playing tricks?

Lets say Mars came close to us and "kissed" the Earth without damaging the surface and stayed there permanently. What would the contact point be like? Would we be able to walk to Mars?
