Dogs enjoy ear scratches in an almost over-the-top way due to a very high number of nerve endings there. Is this coincidence, or is there an evolutionary advantage to that particular sensitivity, like encouraging their bond to humans?

Why don't large telescopes use arrays of photoreceptors where their reflecting mirrors are instead of using those mirrors to focus the light onto a small patch of photoreceptors?
