In the video game 'Dark Souls' there is an order of knights who are known for wearing extremely round and bulbous armor (photo linked inside). Could such armor be practical for a soldier of the middle ages?

I recently saw a photo that was, according to the photographer, cave art written by a German soldier during WW1; it was "Hell" written in candle soot. Would a German have written "Hell" or "Hölle"?
