Many things seem to have happened within the first nanoseconds after the Big Bang... but then for the next billion years, kind of nothing. Why were the first trillionths of a second of the universe's life so eventful followed by a whole lot of (relatively) nothing?

If massless materials existed, could a ship travel faster than (or as fast as) light? If not, what prevents it from doing so?

75+ years later, and getting rockets into orbit is still an extremely difficult and delicate process. Will it always be like this, or will launches eventually become as "simple" as flying an airplane?
