In science fiction movies, there is often a portion of a spaceship which rotates to create artificial gravity. Wouldn't the gyroscopic motion affect the trajectory? If there were changes in the balance (e.g someone walking around) could the course be altered?

The causes of celebration for US Independence Day seem a bit mushy to me. Has the shift from commemorating the Declaration of Independence to commemorating veterans of all wars come recently? Or has it been another Veteran's/Memorial Day potpourri since the war of 1812 (or earlier)?
