According to the Statistisches Bundesamt, the death rate in Germany at the end of WWII was around 1M per year. Then it dropped by a wide margin. After the 50s, mortality rate increased until 70s and then down to the levels we have today. But in the late 40s and 50s, mortality was at its lowest. Why?
