If radioactivity/radiation comes from unstable elements, where does electromagnetic radiation come from? Why do we use the word "radioactive" when these two phenomena seem to have NOTHING in common?

Radiation (gamma) usually greatly stunts plant growth, but by nature it also causes a huge amount of mutations. How likely or possible is it that an irradiated plant can grow to be much larger/more fruitful than a non-irradiated plant?

In math, "imaginary numbers" such as the square root of -1 are used regularly despite the fact that, according to math, the square root of -1 should not be possible to solve. Math is supposed to make sense. How on earth does i work, and why can't it be worked out logically? Or can it?
