It seems that the inside of my mouth (tongue especially) is much more impervious to high temperature than my external skin. Why is that?

From a geometrical perspective, is it better to aim a basketball for the hoop directly, or the backboard behind it? In terms of allowable error margin % for angle/velocity of the shot.
