I'm reading a Dawkins book and on page 78 he writes about cutting a piece of gold in half repeatedly. Eventually we get an atom of gold. So, I'm wondering, how many times do we have to cut one gram of gold in half to get down to one atom?

We can see yellow even though we do not have visual receptors for yellow. Why can't we see ultraviolet and infrared?
