Turkish baths were extremely popular in the Victorian era, only in the UK there were more than 600 throughout the country. Today, however, there are less than 10 remains. What caused this massive decline of their popularity?

If I google "American inventors", 9 of 10 people in the Google results are of African-American ancestry. How could African-Americans play such a disproportionally big role in science considering that they were an underprivileged minority?
