From my layman's perspective, science understands how dog's view humans (part of a pack, or alpha, etc.). Do we know anything about how cats view people?

My middle school science teacher told us that gum, while being chewed, absorbs any molecules from the air around it. So basically, if you're in the bathroom you're chewing on ....yea. Is there any truth to this or was she just trying to stop us from chewing gum in class?
