Can you explain why such a wide variety of weapons (swords, axes, maces, etc) were used during Medieval times in Europe? Was there true parity in combat that created a paper-rock-scissors ecosystem for weapons?

How did medieval armies handle logistics? How would you feed an army of thousands with limited resources, and few means of food preservation/preparation?

During the exploration era (eg Megellan), how would a ship typically be outfitted for such long voyages? What would the supply stores look like? What would be they're most prized items/tools?
