When Stephen Hawking appeared as himself in The Simpsons and Futurama in 1999/2000 both episodes have jokes about him taking credit for other people's works or ideas. Is this just random humor or was it based on some real events or accusations?

How come we know the names and exact reigning years for pharaohs going back to more than 2,000 BC? Were the ancient Egyptians just that good at keeping records and also preventing them from being lost to history during thousands of years?

During WWII, with rationing and limited shipping options, what happened in countries that would normally export large amounts of coffee, wine, sugar, oil, cotton, etc. worldwide? Did they have to stockpile things waiting for the war to be over?
