Is there any mechanism, other than desalination, where we could divert ocean water inland and filter it naturally via dirt, sand, gravel, etc and create fresh water lakes or rivers that run off it?

Could most blackholes be connected at long distances via wormholes and these are less like tunnels more like rubber and when they stretch, they eventually reach a max distance then contract or implode pulling the whole universe back into a singularity?
